Dear collegues, Our government intends to cut subsidy to zero for the Nederlands Muziek Instituut (Netherlands Music Institute) from 2013 on. As you know our institute holds a national collection on musical heritage of international standing. See also the enclosed press release. Please sign our petition at: http://nederlandsmuziekinstituut.petities.nl. Thank you for your support! Paul Osseweijer Nederlands Muziek Instituut Postbus 90407, 2509 LK Den Haag Prins Willem-Alexanderhof 5, Den Haag e: p.osseweijer@nederlandsmuziekinstituut.nl www.nederlandsmuziekinstituut.nl --- State subsidy for musical heritage cut to zero (Netherlands) In his vision of what should be ‘new culture policy', State Secretary Halbe Zijlstra has announced on Friday, June 10 that subsidy for the Netherlands Music Institute will be terminated as of January 1, 2013. This effectively means that the State denies further responsibility for musical heritage. In this vision the NMI collection is wrongly characterized as a ‘municipal collection with limited public appeal'. This ignores the fact that the NMI holds a national collection of international standing. It includes personal archives of some 600 Dutch composers and other musicians, including Willem Mengelberg, Alphons Diepenbrock, Julius Röntgen, Hendrik Andriessen, Tristan Keuris and Peter Schat. Apart from countless documents pertaining to Dutch musical history, the NMI also holds a general music library of some 200.000 volumes, including publications from 1492 till the present, as well as manuscripts by Beethoven, Mozart, Liszt, Schumann and Mahler. Loss of government support will force the NMI to terminate its activities in 2013. What in the event would happen to the collections is an open question. Quick guide for the search
- Wildcard-Search
With the help of a so-called wildcard you can look for several search words, which have the same word beginning. If you search e.g. for "Typo*", the search will find everything that begins with "Typo" : Typo3, Typoscript, Typocode, Typo3user... etc.
- Negative search
If you do not want to find certain expressions in your search result, you can cause this with placing a hyphen in front. Terms containing this phrase are excluded from the search result.
- Search for user
It is possible to limit the search result on answers of certain users. In addition to the retrieval query attach still another "user:username" and find the results, which were written by this certain user. If the username could not be found this will be ignored.
